# Finding an Inclusive Employer

## Before Applying

***

* [ ] Review the company website and/or LinkedIn page for photos that reflect diversity (beware of obviously staged and/or stock photos), a Diversity & Inclusion Statement, and/or internally generated DEI reports
* [ ] Ask a current employee that identifies as a member of a historically underrepresented group (HUG) for an informational interview
* [ ] Read Glassdoor, Justus, and/or Dyversifi reviews to gather additional insights on the employee experience

## During the Hiring Process

***

* [ ] When you receive emails from employees, are their pronouns in their signatures?
* [ ] Assess the interview team–are you meeting with a diverse panel of employees or do they all identify similarly?
* [ ] If your interview is in-person, ask to use the restroom–is there a gender-neutral restroom?
* [ ] Ask your interview team about the company's commitment to DEI–what percentage of the organization's budget is dedicated to DEI programs & initiatives? What progress has been made as it pertains to DEI goals and which ones are they actively working towards? Can they honestly reference areas of improvement?
* [ ] Inquire about how performance is evaluated. What is the frequency of performance reviews? What professional development and career growth opportunities are available at the organization? Probe for success stories in which underrepresented employees thrived and were celebrated in the workplace.
* [ ] Assess how you feel throughout the process. Do you feel that time your time, opinions, and ideas are valued and respected?

## After You Receive an Offer

***

* [ ] Inquire about the process for joining or creating Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and/or about other support systems that you can take advantage of.
* [ ] Review the company's organizational chart–is diversity evident across levels?
* [ ] Are there benefits that address the needs of/are accessible to as many employees as possible (e.g. health insurance that covers gender-affirmation surgery, equal parental leave, visa sponsorship, mental/emotional health resources)?
* [ ] Consider how comfortable you truly are. Do you feel the need to suppress significant aspects of your identity in order to work there?
